Anomalous electron trapping by magnetic flux tubes and electric current vortices

چکیده

We consider an electron with an anomalous magnetic momentum, g > 2 , confined to a plane and interacting with a nonhomogeneous magnetic field B . We show that if B is of a compact support and the related flux is N + ǫ , ǫ ∈ (0, 1] , the corresponding Pauli Hamiltonian has at least N + 1 bound states. We also consider the situation where B is due to a localized rotationally symmetric electric current vortex in the plane. In this case the flux is zero and bound states exist if the current strength exceeds a critical value.

We investigate an electron in the plane interacting with the magnetic field due to an electric current forming a localized rotationally symmetric vortex. We show that independently of the vortex profile an electron with spin antiparallel to the magnetic field can be trapped if the vortex current is strong enough. In addition, the electron scattering on the vortex exhibits resonances for any spi...

Triode for Magnetic Flux Quanta

In an electronic triode, the electron current emanating from the cathode is regulated by the electric potential on a grid between the cathode and the anode. Here we demonstrate a triode for single quantum magnetic field carriers, where the flow of individual magnetic vortices in a superconducting film is regulated by the magnetic potential of striae of soft magnetic strips deposited on the film...

Optical manipulation of single flux quanta

Magnetic field can penetrate into type II superconductors in the form of Abrikosov vortices, which are magnetic flux tubes surrounded by circulating supercurrents often trapped at defects referred to as pinning sites. Although the average properties of the vortex matter in superconductors can be tuned with magnetic fields, temperature or electric currents, handling of individual Abrikosov vorti...

A Novel Mechanism for Type-I Superconductivity in Neutron Stars

We suggest a mechanism that may resolve a conflict between the precession of a neutron star and the widely accepted idea that protons in the bulk of the neutron star form a type-II superconductor. We will show that if there is a persistent, non-dissipating current running along the magnetic flux tubes the force between magnetic flux tubes may be attractive, resulting in a type-I, rather than a ...

Magnetic fields boosted by gluon vortices in color superconductivity.

We investigate the effects of an external magnetic field in the gluon dynamics of a color superconductor with three massless quark flavors. In the framework of gluon mean-field theory at asymptotic densities, we show that the long-range component H[over ] of the external magnetic field that penetrates the color-flavor locked phase produces an instability when its strength becomes larger than th...
